Inc. Inc.: Breaking Down Silos

A Powerful Business Simulation for Team Building and Corporate Retreats

Inc. Inc., a high impact and POWERFUL team building simulation, designed by Toronto based The Training Oasis, Inc., creates a parallel universe that mirrors your organization's structure and corporate culture. Partial Client List

  • CIBC
  • Toronto Children's Chorus
  • Goldwell
We strongly recommend that you devote at least a full day to Inc. Inc. for a thorough debrief and to give your group ample opportunity to return to their intact teams and bridge between the simulation and your real world business challenges.

The 1 1/2 - 2 day version of this team building session will give us an opportunity to guide your team through business application exercises, decision making and implementation planning.

To maximize the "fun factor" in this team building simulation, we can set the organization in the entertainment, hospitality, or tourism industry. For example, we have run this simulation as under these scenarios involve running one company with different levels and departments or 2 companies that eventually merge:

  • an airline
  • a restaurant
  • Tours R Us (a travel agency)
  • Resorts R Us (a resort)
  • construction companies that undertake projects in low income areas
  • Kidz Kare International, an event planning company for families vacationing in Jamaica

Overview: Inc. Inc.
Team Building Simulation

1 - 2 Day Sessions Include:

  • Pre-session CEO (or team leader)briefing to pinpont your Key Business Challenges
  • Post Session Follow Up Briefing with Your Team to Reinforce Learning

During the simulation and the intensive debrief and application that follows, your team will:

  • Develop an awareness of the contributions and challenges of other departments
through firsthand experience working in another functional area.
  • Identify and develop strategies to eliminate time wasting communication stopgaps.
  • Get “buy-in” w.r.t. your organization’s vision, values, and corporate culture.
  • Build the skills to lead or be a productive member of a cross functional team.
  • Break down silos in order to improve communication and efficiency.
  • Clarify roles, responsibilities and expectations.

After a brief orientation session, your team will dive right in and operate one or two companies. Over the course of a business cycle (ideally 4 quarters), the company will operate under one of two scenarios (see below). There will be currency and regular customer attitude surveys to measure and track company performance. Your business challenges will be built into the simulation. The terminology and jargon used in the simulation will also reflect your corporate culture.

Each team will have specific deliverables and a set of objectives to meet. The simulation is set up so that no team can achieve its objectives without breaking down silos and collaborating with other groups.

Then, we will debrief the simulation thoroughly and glean key learnings about working in a cross functional environment and overcoming the silo mentality.

Anne Thornley-Brown, our Jamaican-born founder and CEO, lives in Toronto, Ontario Canada. Through our strategic alliance with FIK International, we have the privilege of serving clients in Singapore, Dubai, Malaysia, Thailand, and India. Based on this experience, Scenario 2 can incorporate international locations to prepare your team for the opportunities of the global marketplace.
